Developing A Global Diversity Strategy
The company, the product of a series of mergers in the insurance sector is one of the leading insurers in the world. Expanding from its strong base in the UK it has over 60,000 staff in over 20 countries.
We helped them appoint a establish a Group Diversity Director and create a senior level group to lead the change. This group is chaired by the Group Strategy Director. The group had representatives from across the world – including Dutch, Australian, Indian, and Ivory Coast nationals – and a balance of line and HR leaders.
First the group needed to share their different perspectives and come to a common vision for what they thought diversity should mean for the company. They got Executive Committee support for this approach and developed a highly innovative communication campaign (“if you think diversity is not for you – think again”) with a video and brochure pack translated into local languages, which were launched at a senior management conference.
