The Government publishes Schneider Ross research into Cost and Cost Effectiveness of the Specific Race, Disability and Gender Equality Duties - Jun 2009

We are delighted that today, 11th June 2009, as part of their consultation around the new Equality Bill, the Government have published the findings of our research assessing the costs and cost effectiveness of the current equality duties.

Robin Schneider commented: "From time to time, we carry out work under our ‘not for profit’ organisation that we feel can make a significant contribution to progress on equality and diversity in the UK. What struck me most powerfully in the findings was the numbers who are seeing real improvements in organisational outcomes as a result of their work on the equality duties. It's a very encouraging set of findings and we conclude with a number of recommendations that will enable the Government to build on this success."

Since the introduction of the race equality duty in 2000, with the subsequent addition of the disability and gender equality duties, public sector organisations have been on a learning curve as they develop knowledge and expertise in their implementation.

In the Autumn of 2009, Schneider Ross was commissioned by the Government Equalities Office to conduct research into the costs and cost effectiveness of these duties.

The key findings are set out in the Executive Summary which you can access by clicking here.
