Tate & LyleTate & Lyle’s 2014 annual report (http://annualreport2014.tateandlyle.com/downloads/Tate_and_Lyle_ARA_2014_Full.pdf) includes a summary of their board effectiveness review (on pages 43-44 in its Corporate Governance section) which was facilitated by Schneider-Ross. Tate & Lyle is undertaking a transformation it its business, focussing on growing  its Speciality Food Ingredients (SFI) business. It has seen double digit growth for the SFI business in both Asia and Latin America. In the light of this changing context, a number of new Board appointments had been made – adding to both the nationality and gender mix around the boardroom table. In his Chairman’s Statement, Sir Peter Gershon writes: “We felt that given the importance of inclusive leadership and the changes to the Board in the previous year there would be significant benefit in undertaking the review from a diversity and inclusion perspective.”

Robin Schneider comments: “It has been a delight to work with one of the more diverse FTSE boards. They see the value that having an inclusive culture can bring to both decision-making in the boardroom and to the wider transformation of the business. We were able to make a number of recommendations which, we believe, under the leadership of Sir Peter Gershon will further enhance the boardroom environment.”
